EV CHARGERCOST GUIDE.

A working installer's breakdown of what a home EV charger actually costs to install in the UK in 2026 — and where the surprises usually hide.

The short answer

In 2026 a standard 7kW home charger install in the West Midlands typically lands between £850 and £1,200 fully fitted. Three-phase 22kW units run £1,600–£2,100. Prices include the unit, the install, DNO notification and a smart-tariff setup.

The variance is almost entirely down to cable run length, whether your consumer unit can take the extra circuit, and whether you're on single or three-phase.

What drives the price up

Four factors move the number more than anything else.

  • Cable length — anything over 15m from meter to charger adds £8–£12 per extra metre for tidy cable containment
  • Consumer unit condition — a plastic-cased or full board means you're paying for a new fuse box too (£450–£650)
  • Earthing arrangement — TT properties need an earth rod, adding £120–£180
  • Three-phase supply — 22kW units cost more and, if you need a supply upgrade, the DNO fee is separate (£1,000+)

What about the OZEV grant?

The domestic EV Chargepoint Grant is still available to flat owners and renters (up to £350 off the install). Owner-occupier houses lost eligibility in 2022, but we'll always check your eligibility before quoting — it's still worth £350 for anyone in a leasehold flat.

Which unit should I pick?

Most of our customers land on one of three: Zappi if they have solar, Ohme if they're on Octopus Intelligent, and Pod Point if they want a set-and-forget unit. All three are OZEV-approved and priced within £50 of each other.
